Happy Birthday!

The Special Day

A day of festivities, all your families and friends celebrate you. You get gifts, on this special day! Really exciting as a kid, right? Is it still like that, or did you get bored? Do you still like celebrating your birthday?
Do you maybe have the feeling that that day, isn't that special afterall? Well, yes. I don't like birthdays too. For various reasons actually.

The Bad

Do they really, give you a special moment and celebrate you? Or are they there just for the party? Probably more for the second reason. Is there any difference to organising something (party or whatever one does on birthdays)? Not really. Well I guess you don — well actually you can get gifts also if you simply invite someone home, might bring you a bottle of wine or something.
Also, as mentioned before, don't you feel it looses importance over time? Well, not exactly, it never really had importance in the first place. Why give you that special attention only on that day? And not always? You should always be loved and cherished. And, you should be the focus. It's a celebration of you, and most of the time it simply isn't. And that also should include that it is on your terms, even if you say "I want to be alone" — though, that's not really accepted, right?

The Good

But I like the concept of a day to get celebrated, to dedicate to myself!
Oh yes, absolutely do that. On your terms though. choose a day, or multiple, or simply when you feel like it! Fuck yes, call it even your birthday! Make it an actually special moment, whether alone or with friends, that's all up to you! Also, on the side — it's a very nice way to reject social norms — do whatever the fuck you want really <3
